Getting the Heat Right in Your Husky HyPET
If you’ve spent any time on the floor with a high-speed PET blower, you know the struggle. You’re fighting that annoying balance where the skin of the preform is scorching hot, but the core is still cold. That’s how you end up with stress whitening or walls that are thick in some spots and paper-thin in others. It’s a headache. We built our custom lamps to stop that from happening.
How we actually get the heat inside
Most standard lamps just bake the surface. It’s a waste of energy. We do things differently by using a specific short-wave infrared spectrum that actually pushes the heat deeper into the PET. We played around with the quartz envelope thickness and the tungsten filament density to crank up the radiant flux. The result? The heat hits the center of the preform without torching the outside. It just works.
The nitty-gritty on the hardware
These are drop-in replacements. No fuss, no fancy modifications. Since space is always tight in those oven racks, we use high-voltage setups to get the most wattage possible out of a small footprint. Depending on what you’re running, we’ll use R7s or Sk15 connectors. One thing to watch out for: we treat the quartz glass so it doesn’t get gunked up by PET off-gassing. When the glass stays clean, your heat stays consistent. **A quick word of caution though.**If you’re pushing for max power—like 2500W per tube—make sure your cooling fans are actually doing their job. If the air isn’t moving, you’re looking at burnt-out sockets. Simple as that.
Making it work on your floor
Installing these is easy. You wire them right into your existing power rails. Since the dimensions match your HyPET lamps exactly, you don’t have to touch the reflectors. Everything stays focused exactly where it needs to be. And here’s the best part: when you get better penetration, you can usually speed up your cycles. The melt is more uniform, which means you don’t need as much blow-up pressure to shape the bottle. Your compressors get a break, and you stop worrying about bottles bursting on the line. It’s just a smoother ride.
