
Making Infrared Heaters That Don’t Blind You (And Actually Last)
When you’re putting a heater in a bathroom or a nursery, you can’t just throw a high-wattage lamp in there and call it a day. The real trick is dealing with the light. Most standard short-wave lamps blast out this blinding white light. It’s harsh. If you’ve ever seen one, you know it’s way too bright, especially for a baby’s eyes. We don’t want that. The secret is in the glow. We use a specific mix of quartz and some internal coatings to filter out those aggressive, high-frequency light waves. The result? A soft, warm glow. You still get all the infrared energy you need to actually feel warm, but you lose that annoying glare. It’s heat without the headache. Then there’s the moisture. Bathrooms are basically death traps for electronics. Between the steam and the occasional splash, most heaters just short out or the filaments burn out way too fast. That’s why we stick to an IP55 rating. In plain English, that means the housing is built to keep dust out and can handle water jets hitting it from any angle. We seal the wiring tight and use alloys that won’t rust. Because nobody wants a heater that falls apart after one cold winter. Now, there are a few trade-offs. Because we’re adding these filters and the heavy-duty sealing, the units are a bit bulkier than those cheap, open-element heaters. They aren’t “ultra-slim.” Also, because of the protective casing, it takes a few extra seconds to reach full heat compared to a bare bulb. One last thing—keep an eye on your electrics. Halogen elements have a bit of a “surge” when they first kick on. If you’re wiring a bunch of these into one area, make sure your circuit breaker can handle the load. Otherwise, you’ll be flipping the power switch back on the second you try to get warm.
