When we’re designing infrared lamps for bathrooms, the biggest headache isn’t actually the heat. It’s the light. Most standard short-wave lamps put out this blinding, aggressive white glare. Now, imagine being in a bathroom with a baby—or even just waking up from a nap—and having that blast of light hit you. It’s harsh. It stresses the eyes. Nobody wants that. Keeping things easy on the eyes To fix this, we use special coatings on the quartz glass. Think of it like a filter. It blocks out those sharp UV rays and the bright white light, but lets the warmth slide right through. Instead of a spotlight, you get a soft, warm glow. It’s a simple trade: we get rid of the part that makes you squint, but keep the part that makes your skin feel cozy. The give and take of design Here’s the thing: you can’t get something for nothing. When you coat the glass to kill the glare, you lose a tiny bit of raw heat efficiency. A clear tube lets everything out, while a coated one holds a little bit back. But we’ve found a way around that by tweaking the filament density. It balances out perfectly. One thing to keep in mind: heat rises. Since these go in the ceiling, the housing takes a beating. If your ventilation isn’t up to the task, the lamp will overheat and the filament will burn out way too fast. You’ve got to let it breathe. Making it work We made these with standard connectors, so they just pop right into most ceiling grids. No fuss. The real magic is in the “spectral curve”—which is just a fancy way of saying we keep the heat in that 3 to 5-micron range. This means the warmth actually sinks into your skin without overloading your optic nerve. It’s all about finding that sweet spot where it feels warm, looks soft, and doesn’t make you want to close your eyes.
